PA 309 transitions onto Memorial Highway, a four lane boulevard in Courtdale. The North Cross Valley Expressway is an urban freeway spanning the city of Wilkes-Barre west to the boroughs of Kingston, Forty Fort, Pringle and Luzerne. PA 309 parallels the Interstate 81 corridor north from there into Wilkes-Barre, where it combines with the freeway east to PA 115 and the North Cross Valley Expressway. Heading north into the city of Hazleton, PA 309 expands to a three or four lane boulevard to Church Street and the central business district. The state route branches west from I-476 at Schnecksville to Pleasant Corners and U.S. The remainder of PA 309 north to Hazleton generally constitutes a two lane highway with exceptions through North Whitehall township. 22 (Lehigh Valley thruway) along an older freeway bypass of Allentown to South Whithall township. I-78 was completed south of Bethlehem and Easton in 1989. The freeway along PA 309 around Allentown was incorporated into Interstate 78. PA 309 turns northwest through Upper Saucon township to become a part of Interstate 78 south of Allentown. The five lane arterial extends north to 3rd Street at Coopersburg. North into Quakertown, PA 309 follows a commercialized stretch along West End Boulevard. PA 309 upgrades to a freeway again along the Sellersville Bypass from Souderton north to Teldford, Sellersville and East Rockhill township. ![]() The state route continues north along Bethlehem Pike to Montgomeryville and Hatfield township. ![]() Through southeastern Pennsylvania, PA 309 follows the Fort Washington Expressway, a limited access highway from Cheltenham township to Fort Washington, Ambler and Spring House. The state route was formerly a part of U.S. ![]() PA 309 travels north from PA 611 (Old York Road) along the Philadelphia city line to PA 29 (Joseph W Hunter Highway) in Monroe township.
